Virtual Quilt Show

Grandmother's Choice by
ConnieB_CA

You may have noticed Connie's blocks over the past year...

Masterful fussy cutting of William Morris reproductions...

in a lovely madder and indigo color scheme.

No matter what I threw at her she had a solution.

Terrific, Connie.

She set 49 blocks in the same set Becky used for
the Civil War Sampler last year.

Somebody suggested we need to have a quilt show.
That would be terrific but until we can figure out
how to pay for all that international shipping,
the virtual show will have to do.

And do quite nicely.
Go to our Flickr page where Dustin keeps things going.

I noticed today that we have over 300 members
who have posted about 4,000 photos.

Now that's a quilt show!

I've been lurking around the site, uploading some finished tops.
Squaring them up a little
Grandmother's Choice
By Barbara B (another one, not me!)

74" square with narrow sashing.
(She didn't like her block 48 so she invented her own).

BB wants to know: "Any thoughts on quilting designs for these quilts?"
I'll have to think on that. Some imagery from the posters, buttons and graphics perhaps?

Pink Deenster has been using a fresh color scheme of turquoise and black
and red with lots of plaids and pattern.

Here's her set.

Pati did a second set in red, white and blue for a See How We Sew post.

You are all so inspirational I am going to have to think of another sampler.
Becky and I are planning a 2014 block of the month for the Civil War Quilts site beginning in January
but a block of the week is too much fun!

I'll think about it - history and patterns.
I enjoy writing it and love seeing the results.

  3. This has been so much fun. It has made me do blocks that I would never had done. The history lesson has brought women fight to the real fight it has been. I have always had the right to vote, but I have had men that think women do not belong in the field of her interest, for me that was the science field. Thanks for writing about the Votes for Women.

  5. The virtual quilt show is beautiful! There is so much talent in the group that the inspiration is incredible. Thank you for the history lessons you brought us weekly and the opportunity to meet so many world wide! I am looking forward to the 2014 block of the month! I can't wait to see what you and Becky have come up with. Thank you again for inspiring me and the enjoyment week after week!

  6. I have enjoyed working on this quilt so much! And learning about the history. I need to go back and make a notebook to go with the quilt, have been invited to speak to a Girl Scout troop about the subject and to show them the quilt.
I'm toying with the idea of doing a "first woman who" quilt. Now Diana Nyad will need a block. I googled "first woman" and found lists of the first women to do different jobs or accomplishments.
I know it would be a lot of work, but another block of the week would be fantastic. Need a volunteer to piece blocks?

  8. Love Block of the week! Kept up pretty much each week. It was easy to gather up my selected fabrics in a box and select from it each week. Love Marci's idea of "first woman who". It was sometimes challenging to make 8" blocks from a nine-patch base design and I still have to master that block 48--I've been piecing for many years but that one got me. Going to hand-piece it the next time. Thanks for showing my top--I'm still looking for quilting ideas.

  9. I enjoyed this experience so very much! Thank you for all your hard work.I loved the Block of the Week format, it was hard and I got behind several times but each Saturday morning was like a mini Christmas, I loved it! I hope you are able to hold another one in the future.

  10. I enjoyed your CW block of the week and managed to keep up with that, although my quilt is still waiting to be quilted. I haven't managed to keep up with the Grandmother's Choice, (my own fault really as I have too many projects on the go) but I'm intending to get stuck into it in November and get it finished. How about a block a fortnight instead of a block a week?

  11. I agree with the sentiments of others who have posted. This was so much fun and as a relatively new quilter (started with one year of experience) and I really progressed in my quilting by sewing every week. I made many blocks I did not even know existed and some I never would have attempted. I am not so afraid of Y-seams or applique anymore! Thanks for showing my top - I'm honored!

Seeing everyone else's version of the blocks was great, too, and helped me refine my designs. It would be really fun to do another BOW!

  13. Beautiful sharing, thank you! I'm so glad there's going to be a block of the month, but I would love a block of the week that's history based, as the last two projects have been.
